Playworkers are always present to promote child-directed play, remove hazards, mediate disputes, and help when requested.

Risk, Not Hazards
Risk-taking is an essential element of learning. Experiential, playful trial-and-error is not just a learning construct, it is THE primary method used by humans for discovery and growth. Nearly all educational rubrics intend to channel this organic means of adding insight and knowledge. Unfortunately, our culture has become risk averse to a degree that dampens our childrens' opportunities for meaningful growth and play. JunkPark aims to provide opportunities for child-directed risks. Staff are responsible for removing hazards and ensuring a safe play environment for all of the children involved.
Child-Directed, Creative Play
Our children's' lives are dominated by adult agendas. This includes academic, athletic, and artistic activities. While many of these activities are valuable, our children are increasingly over-scheduled and over-scrutinized. Child-directed play has been shown to be an incredibly potent tool for academic, social and emotional development. JunkPark provides an environment conducive to these areas of growth.
